Gateway High School Benefit Dance
On
Friday, April 17,2009, CREW Foundation participated in a benefit dance at
Gateway High School which helped raise money for Susan G. Komen Pittsburgh
Race for the Cure. Two seniors from Gateway, Megan Bertoline and Maria Hyzy
coordinated the fundraiser as part of The Future is Mine student group. Over
100+ students and chaperones attended the benefit. The night focused around
the ‘Cure’ which began with a few words from a breast cancer survivor from
Susan G. Komen. The students also had the opportunity to write letters
to patients, purchase accessories from the American Cancer Society and create
hand-made tags. The hand-made tag materials were supplied by the
Foundation. We cut, assembled and embellished the tags so they could
be attached to the satchels like a luggage tag. The event was a success
with the students raising over $600.00 for the Cure

Survivor Day Conference
On March 14, 2009, CREW Pittsburgh Foundation board members Eileen Iorio and
Kathy Graham took part in the Survivor Day Conference hosted by the American
Cancer Society. They explained to many of the attendees about our program and
how the satchels are made and distributed. Several attendees came over to the
Satchels of Caring table to express their heartfelt gratitude for receiving a
bag and some eager to give back, signed our volunteer list.
